Yamaha or Steinway pianos? What is the best option?
This is the most common question among piano students, even piano tutors who find themselves searching for the perfect piano for them.
Why is this question so important?
The instrument is the conduit to extract the perfect and ideal sound from us to express the pieces we love most. In order to have an educated choice, the first thing we need is accurate information to then come to the perfect decision.
Among many piano brands, two are considered to be the most influential:
Steinway & Sons and Yamaha.
Both companies have reached the utmost technique in piano construction.
Steinway was the first to appear and continuously produced the most mesmerizing instrument with a tradition of 167 years and still running today.
Yamaha is much newer in appearance, but new how to craft from the best Japanese dedication to excellence and perfection the most marvelous instruments on the market.
There are certain differences in material used that evidently impact the overall sound:
Yamaha pianos are made from well-sourced East Asian materials, such as; quality spruces, oak and mahogany. The inside consists of quality hammers, copper bass strings and maple wood bridges.
Steinway uses high-quality maple and spruce from Northern American locations. The frame consists of multiple layers of thick, maple wood and usually finished in black mahogany.

Another less elevated factor is the price. Steinway’s pianos are by far much more expensive while Yamaha’s pianos can be more affordable, although their price has increasingly gone up in the last decade.
